With the paid service you don't have to do your own page, they will do it for you and the question is if it's worth paying for when you can do it yourself. As I wrote in the blog post you should create your own page instead of paying for it if you can create your own page. If you can't create your own page and/or don't have the time to do it, then you can go for the paid option.

Andreas, surely you are missing a key point in your "is it worth it" analysis: anyone can, at any time, change the content of the AboutUs page that describes your site (I was tempted to, but I managed to resist…) To me, that makes it as useful as a chocolate teapot, but less tasty.

Since you can create your own AboutUs page about your domain name for free I think you should do so at first. They have guides and tutorials to help you build your page about your site. To start building your page simply visit http://www.aboutus.org/mygreenbeginning.com or have a look at how our page looks like http://www.aboutus.org/xaviermedia.com

When you start making some money from your site and you feel that you need a professionally created AboutUs page, then pay for their service.

I'am new to the website building and to get good rankings from the search engines.
I had a call from aboutus and she said they could help me on the rankings for $197.
Is it worth the money?
My site http://www.mygreenbeginning.com is only two months old.
Every day I try to improve on it to get more visits.
Its indexed with google. With ranking of 0.

I think you should be offering some kind of VIP membership (i.e. access to a special area with information, articles etc only for your upgrading members).

I also mentioned statistics, but maybe some kind of other SEO tools like keyword analysing.
