Is .arpa sone gone?

September 23rd, 2008 by Andreas from Xavier Media® in Domain names, Statistics. Topics:

A few days ago I noticed a huge drop in the number of pages hosted on .arpa domain names:( Ok, the Internet will not end if no more pages is hosted on .arpa domains because the .arpa got way bigger uses then to be a hosting domain, but it's still just too bad :( .

For those of you who don't know anything about the .arpa top level domain (TLD) it was created 1985 and it's a "behind the scene" top level domain. This means that it's used by Internet Service Providers to make Internet work, without any Internet users noticing.

In total there are at the moment 132 web pages hosted on .arpa domains according to Xavier Media Whois. A year ago that number was almost 1,000 web pages which means a drop of about 80-90%!
