.job versus .pro

October 10th, 2008 by Andreas from XavierMedia.com

I guess you know there are two top level domains (TLDs) with a similar target group: .jobs and .pro

Ok, the idea with these two domains are not exactly the same since .jobs is meant for companies searching for new workers and .pro is more for professionals like laywers, doctors etc. But still, they are similar since both of them target jobs or professions ;-)

If we compare these to top level domains (if we speak about number of hosted pages) then we'll see that the .pro domain is much much bigger.

So why would we actually need .jobs when .pro is so much more popular? The thing is that I like .jobs much more since from that domain I can guess what to find on a web site ending with .jobs, but that's much harder with .pro… Another factor is that .jobs is expensive, but can be registered by almost anyone. To get a .pro domain you need to be a professional and also be able to prove it :( .

Time will tell which domain will become more popular and from the graph above we can so far see that .pro is gaining popularity much faster then .jobs.
