Google – a growing spam problem
January 8th, 2009 by Andreas from Xavier Media® in Antivirus & Security. Topics: Google, Microsoft, Spam, Spamhaus, TinyURLHave you recently noticed an increase in spam linking to docs.google.com? If so there's a reason for it. More and more spammers have figured out how to abuse Googles fantastic services to redirect visitors to other sites (the spammers own sites)
Most free web services like for example Hotmail, TinyURL, Yahoo Mail and many more have problems with spammers abusing their free services for their shady activities
. And now they've figured out how to abuse Google Docs. Spammers are abusing Google so much that Spamhaus recently upgraded Google from the 4th to the 3rd biggest spam source.
Other services like for example Microsoft added some counter-measures to prevent this type of problems recently and they've succeeded quite good. TinyURL is another service blocking redirects to sites listed on Spamhaus block list.
Lets just hope Google are working on this problem….
