Google to buy Twitter
April 6th, 2009 by Andreas from XavierMedia.comThe rumours about a merger between Google and Twitter (more like Google swallowing Twitter if you see to the estimated value of the both companies) are flooding the Internet these days and the big question is if there are any thruth behind them at all.
Even if the rumours are just only rumours it would be interesting to see Twitter join the Google family. This could happen if Google + Twitter = True:
- Google are good at creating APIs for their services and Twitter got a nice API already, but it needs to be cleaned up and simplified. Witha merger with Google Twitter will get a completely new API.
- Twitter isn't earning any money today and if they can't earn money I have a hard time thinking they will survive which is too bad since they provide an excellent service. By joining the Google family we will most likely see Adsense ads on Twitter and by looking at other Google services like Gmail and the search engine Google is good at integrating ads without destroying the service completely like other companies (Microsoft + Hotmail).
- By joining the Google family Twitter users will be able to login at their Twitter accounts using Google/Gmail accounts
- You will see your tweets directly in your Gmail inbox like you see your emails or chats. Twitter could also become integrated directly in the Google feedreader.
- Tweets will show up directly in the Google search engine and you will also see tweets in the Google Trend graphs
- All Twitter users will see the exact location of the people they follow directly on Google Maps. You can also historically see where a user tweeted something directly on the map.
