Translate in Gmail

May 31st, 2009 by Andreas from XavierMedia.com

Are you too using Gmail, then this is really good news for you. If you use the English language version of Gmail, then you can select to activate translate for your emails. This service is still something in Google abs (Google's test environment), but since it's based on Google's translate tool it should be pretty useful anyway for most of us. And I don't think there will be any direct bugs in the functionality.

To turn on the translation service you login to your Gmail account and click on "Settings", then select the tab called "Labs" (I think it's only available for the English version of Gmail, but I'm a little bit unsure).

Then scroll down to the plugin called "Message translation" and set it to enabled.

If you now get an email in any other language then English you will get something like this in your email:

In this case I'm trying to translate a Swedish email into English and I have to say that I'm really satisfied with the results. I'm already waiting for my first email in Spanish to test it on some more languages :D
