Tomorrow it's time to register your own address like www.facebook.com/username on Facebook. Previously all profile pages got a non-funny address like www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=123456789, but as mentioned now it's possible to get www.facebook.com/username instead.

To avoid a Wild West scenario like the name squatting scenarios in the early years of the Internet where people registered company names as domain names to earn a few fast bucks by selling the domain names to the companies owning the trademarks or the company names registered, Facebook has blocked thousands of famous company names. This means that it's not going to be possible to register names like www.facebook.com/microsoft.

It's also not possible to transfer the name you register and you can't change it. This is also to avoid people trying to profit from the user names registered.

To register your own name you should visit www.facebook.com/username and you must have a Facebook account registered before the 11th of June.
