How to publish blog posts via email
April 14th, 2010 by Andreas from Xavier Media® in Blogging, The World According to Xavier, Tutorials, Xavier Media. Topics: blog, email, exavier, gmail, quick blogcastEarlier we had a post about how to setup your own blog on your own domain name using Quick Blogcast, and now it's time to learn how to post to your blog from your email account.
It's not always possible to access your blog via the web interface to update and sometimes you just want to prepare your posts in advance to just publish them from your Gmail address for example. This is where the fantastic function simply just called Email Blogging comes in handy, but it requires some preparations before you can use it.
From your Quick Blogcast dashboard just click on the icon called Email Blogging to set it up:
Make sure you select Yes next to Post via email and fill in the email address you're going to send the emails from. You can only send emails from the specified email address and this is so that your blog address is not going to end up in wrong hands and get spammed
If you've setup categories in your blog you can select the default category to use for your email blogging. You could for example want to use a category called "In the World" or maybe "Blogging from the field"
Once you've saved your settings you can start emailing to your unique blog email address. Remember to email from the email address you specified as "Send from email address", otherwise your posts will not be published which is too bad.
When you email a blog post the subject you specify in the email subject line will be the title of your blog post and the full body of your email will be the body of your blog post. You can also in the email specify which category to use for the blog posts by writing the category name first in the email body like this:
Category: SampleCategory
If you don't specify any category in the email sent your post will end up in the default category you specified in the settings. Don't forget to add a blank line between the category and the blog post, otherwise your entire blog post will be set as the category
