With million of blogs out there, getting people to find yours can be very difficult. While search engine optimization may be enough, you should also consider using social media. Since you can easily spread your blog around all the different networks, you make it easier for people to find you. This article will go through the 10 best ways to promote your blog with social media.

Trick 1: Automatic Sharing

Going over to Facebook, Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn to manually put your blog post online takes a lot of time, even if you just do one post per day. Instead, use automatic sharing software.

This takes your post, and it automatically posts them up on all the social networks. It takes a few minutes to setup, and you will save a lot of time in the long run. These programs easily install on most blog engines, so you shouldn’t have any problems finding one.

Trick 2: Ask Readers to Share

A lot of bloggers are afraid to ask their readers to share their content on social media websites. They feel that it goes beyond the bounds of subtle marketing, and that it will turn off readers.

The truth is that by simply asking people to share your content, it can dramatically improve your social media spread. If people like your content, they will gladly share it.

Trick 3: Promote Older Posts

Do you have any evergreen content or posts that are still relevant? Many bloggers forget about their older posts, which causes readers to forget about them. To get more traffic to your blog, consider periodically bringing up an old post.

This allows people to learn from your older content, and it also makes them aware of the broad amount of content you have amassed during your time as a blogger.

Trick 4: Change Your Description

Usually when people promote their blog on social media, they use the blog title as the description. That gets a fair amount of attention, but there is a better way.

According to research, a question description usually gets a better response. This is because it makes a bridge in the reader’s mind, and the reader wants to know the answer to that question.

For example, “The 10 Best Hotdog Stands” is good. But, “Where in the World is the Best Hotdog Stand?” will usually get a better response.

Trick 5: Use Your Persona for Followers

To properly promote your blog, you need social media followers. Most amateur social media users think that by following people, they will follow back. This works, but since it is done as a courtesy, it is rare that these followers will bring any value to your blog.

Instead, have a good persona that people want to follow, and then you will get people who like you to read your blog.

Trick 6: Don’t be Afraid to Repost

This is especially true with Twitter, but applies to the other networks as well. If you posted your new blog post hours ago, then chances are that no one is going to find the post again. It has been buried under thousands of other posts, so it’s like you never made it.

Consider promoting your blog post several times on the day you make it. About three or four times should be enough. Just make sure you don’t do it too much, as that could be considered spam.

Trick 7: Use Groups Whenever Possible

Some social media sites, like Google+, allow you to make different groups. For example, one group can be people interested in botany, while another may be interested in auto insurance.

If you are running a car insurance blog, don’t promote it to the first group. You are wasting your time, and it will seem like spam. However, the second group is ripe for promoting. Use this to promote several blogs, and you should see huge traffic.

Trick 8: Be Active

This refers both to post count and keeping up with followers. You have to be active with your social media account. Even if you didn’t post any new blog content today, you should promote old blog posts or just talk with the community. You can’t be stagnant with social media, otherwise the traffic will dry up.

Trick 9: Don’t Just Promote Your Blog

It’s easy to think that if you promote anything but your own blog, that people will leave your account and head over to someone else’s. However, only promoting yourself looks greedy, and people may stop following you.

Instead, post relevant information for your followers, even if it doesn’t promote your blog. Most marketers say you should only promote yourself 20% of the time.

Trick 10: Use Valuable Content

This might seem like the simplest trick, but using valuable content is the only way people will migrate to your blog. If you write about the same thing someone else did, or if you write about a niche that you have no interest or knowledge in, people will notice.

Unless you have valuable content, you won’t have a large following.

Social media can be easily leveraged to get more traffic to your blog, if you put in the time. Try out these 10 tricks and see how well they work for your blog.
