Search Engine Optimization is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a webpage in a typical search in any of the major search engines. Optimizing your website to reach people that you want to reach can be done using several SEO strategies which we'll take a look at shortly. This post offers useful tips on how to make sure your website shows up on search engines without needing to be an SEO expert or seeking out the services of one.

1. Use Short Titles

The key here is not having your titles appear incomplete while at the same time targeting keywords that feature in search terms. If your title is too long, it might be completely missed by the Google site crawlers that index sites. The best thing to do here would be to keep titles under 60 characters

2. Put Readers First

This has to do with coming up with killer content which increases the number of inbound links from other websites. This translates to engaging and personable content that is written in a conversational style that readers can relate to. This will drive traffic through the sharing of your posts in social media circles such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

3. Place Keywords at The Beginning of Page Titles

This optimizes how you're found through Google instant searches. When you show up in searches, users can easily take note of your titles, helping draw them to your website content.

4. Update Content Regularly

This helps Google index your pages and keeps regular visitors coming back for more. This will help you climb up the SEO faster given the abundance of keywords in your text.

5. Stick to Relevant Content

This is particularly important because it helps normalize your site pages and helps search engines come up with a general idea of what your site is all about. You can do this by peppering your text with keywords that mirror the most likely search terms used to find your site, and then using these keywords to come up with micro posts that focus on a string of keywords that adhere to the 2 percent keyword density rule in each post.

6. Make Use of Alternative Text Descriptions (alt tags)

These describe your visual and audio media, and allow search engines to locate your page. Please note that content means text, audio, video and a host of other mediums that are used by different people. This is because while some people may prefer to read about something, others rely more on video or images to learn about the same thing. After putting all of this content on your site, take some time to accurately add alt tags to help search engines understand images, video and other content that may not be textual in nature.

7. Minimize File Size

Page load times are crucial for SEO. A website with large images that may look good due to their burst of color and crispness may lose out in the SEO game simply because of the amount of time it takes to fully load. With the help of free web tools such as Image Optimizer and Picnik, make your image files as small as possible without sacrificing too much on quality.

These points will help your website SEO and ranking, which will give you the needed visibility to pull in more traffic in the long run.
